David Pyne is a lifelong Republican political activist and veteran’s advocate who currently serves as a Vice President of the Association of the United States Army’s Utah chapter and as Vice Chairman of the Utah State Legislative Compensation Commission. During the past year, he has also served as a member of the West Jordan General Plan Committee. In addition, he serves as both a Republican Party Senate District Chairman and Salt Lake County Republican Party Executive Committee member. He previously served as Salt Lake County Chairman for the Huntsman-Herbert campaign in 2008 and as an advisor for defense, foreign policy and veterans’ issues to Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). He has also served as a county and state delegate to the Utah State and County Republican Party conventions.
David was born on a US Army base in Seoul, Korea in April 1969 where his father was serving in Army Military Intelligence during the Vietnam War after which his family returned home to Orem, Utah. He is a sixth generation Utah resident and descendent of Mormon pioneers who came to Utah in the 1860’s. His great grandmother, Ethel Pyne, was elected as one of Utah’s first two female state legislators in 1946 and his aunt has served as Mayor of Laguna Hills, California.
David served as an International Programs Manager on the Department of the Army Headquarters staff responsible for the countries of the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, the Americas and Africa from 2000-2003. While serving in this position, he was the recipient of a dozen letters of commendation from general officers and members of the Senior Executive Service up to and including the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for International Programs. David was working near the Pentagon when it was attacked on September 11, 2001. He has traveled as a member of Department of Defense-led delegations to Canada, South Africa, Israel, Brazil and Argentina. In addition, he has worked as an International Analyst for the Office of the Secretary of Defense and for the Department of the Navy and as a Research Assistant for the Center for Security Policy.
David is currently employed as a Senior Contract Specialist for ATK Launch Systems in Bacchus, Utah. He previously worked as a Senior Contract Representative for Honeywell Defense and Space Electronic Systems and prior to that as a Lead Acquisition Analyst in CACI Dynamics Systems’ Business Management Division and as a consultant for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.
David previously served as a United States Army armor officer. He has been a member of the Utah State Bar since 1995. He is also a member of the Center for Emerging National Security Affairs (CENSA), the American Legion, the Military Officers Association of America and the National Rifle Association. He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University (1992) where he minored in international relations and history, a Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law (1995) and a Masters of Arts in National Security Studies from Georgetown University's prestigious School of Foreign Service (2000).
In his spare time, David enjoys spending time with his family, reading books and articles on current events, history and international relations and writing novels about alternate history. He lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil for two years from 1988-90 while serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. David has been married to his wife Donelle for the past 14 years and currently resides in West Jordan with his wife and four daughters—Christina (age 13), Kathryn (9), Caitlin (8) and Ashley (7).
